Before updating
- Confirm the installed version in the documentation header or
package.json. - Read the Version history and check for changes to Firebase Functions, rules or settings.
- Export or back up Firestore.
- Retain Firebase Storage files and a copy of the current deployed
dist. - Store
.env.development,.env.production,functions/.env,.firebasercand provider secrets securely. - Record deliberate source and branding customisations.
- Pause Taking orders if the update could interrupt checkout.
Apply the update
- Extract the new release into a separate folder.
- Compare the new
.examplefiles, Firebase rules and indexes with the installed release. - Create new private environment files and copy only the required private values into them.
- Reapply deliberate customisations through a source comparison.
- Run
npm ciandnpm --prefix functions ci. - Run
npm test,npm run typecheckandnpm run build. - Deploy with the same host and integrations used by the current website.
- Clear the host cache only when the host has not published the new hashed assets.
Do not overwrite private environment files, provider secrets, Firebase Storage, production data or business-created content. Keep the previous source and build until verification is complete.
Verify and reopen ordering
- Open the storefront and
/adminin a private browser window. - Confirm administrator login, business settings, products and images.
- Place a complete collection or delivery test order.
- Move the order through every valid status.
- Test each enabled payment and messaging provider.
- Re-enable Taking orders after all checks pass.
Roll back
If the website fails after publishing, republish the previous dist. Follow the rollback instructions supplied with the update and do not try to reverse data changes without guidance. Restore data only from a verified backup and keep the error details for support.
